Misrepresentations
and Bad Conduct |
| Should Not Go Unanswered....... |
| The consumer is always in search of information to make
the best choice and the competition on the internet for any
product is fierce. Unfortunately, some information is misrepresentated
or slanted in an effort to make a sale, and as a result, ends
up in so much consumer confusion that they ultimately go back
to a product they understand. Instead of considering latex
or memory foam they go back to a traditional innerspring mattress
thus bypassing the exceptional value in latex mattresses...ANY
LATEX MATTRESS! Below are a few examples of misrepresentations,
misstatements, and bad conduct and my clarifactions for you
to take into consideration. |
EXAMPLE 1 |
"Don't Get Ripped
Off ? Most "Latex Beds" Are Made Using Synthetic
Latex Made From Petrochemical Products, Not Real Latex !
Why Settle For Less?" |
I wonder who writes this stuff ? It looks like they are
saying "if you don't sell natural latex you are some-kind
of ripoff or scam artist. It also looks like they don't
know what they are talking about as they proceed with the
following:
"it's
a little known fact that about 93% of latex used in the
manufacture of so-called "latex beds" is made
using synthetic latex made from petroleum products ...and
since synthetic latex is stiffer, coarse in texture.....Since
natural latex is inherently more costly, most large scale
bedding manufacturers don't even offer it and substitute
inferior synthetic latex without the customer ever noticing
the difference, thinking that this is as good as it gets"
Pretty slick writing and misleading the reader to negative
conclusions about the quality and intentions of bedding
manufacturers.. Let me add my two cents as we read it again.
"it's a little known fact that
about 93% of latex used in the manufacturer of so-called
latex beds is made using synthetic latex made from pertroleum
products" .( It is not a little known fact.
Everybody in manufacturing and anyone who does research
knows that synthetic latex is blended with a percentage
of natural to produce the best latex mattress cores. The
main reason for blending is to insure a more uniform mattress
to overcome some of the shortcomings of an all natural product.
There are a multitude of latex manufacturers in the world
and they run the gamit as far as production facilities and
technology, which means the end products are not all of
the same quality, even though they are natural.. And
please, these are not "so-called" latex beds,
they are latex beds. ) "and since
synthetic latex is stiffer, coarse in texture".(
Instead of "stiffer and course lets substitute the
word stronger, which it is.. The
cells of synthetic latex are stronger than natural latex
and add tencel tear strength to the combination of blended
natural and synthetic. None of the major latex manufacturers
are producing a 100% synthetic latex mattress as the writer
is trying to infer. ) "Since
natural latex is inherently more costly" (
an all natural latex mattress cost less than a latex mattress
with 70% synthetic and 30% natural produced by the talalay
manufacturing process ),"
most large scale bedding manufacturers don't even offer
it"..... .( they don't offer
it because they know that blended is a better value to the
to the consumer as far as consistant uniform comfort, and
durability ) "and substitute inferior synthetic
latex" ( they are not substituting
inferior synthetic latex they are using superior blended
latex ) without the customer ever noticing the difference,
thinking that this is as good as it gets"
To
reiterate here are some additional thoughts. |
- 80% , not 93% of latex used in manufacture of latex
mattresses in the US is a blend of natural and synthetic
because it delivers a more consistant durable product,
not because the manufacturers are trying to fool the public.
The blend will contain a minimum of 20% natrual latex.
- To my knowledge you can't find a 100% synthetic latex
mattress as all latex mattresses contain at a bare minimum
20% natural latex. The 20 to 50% natural is blended to
give it the soft springy feel that is so unique to latex..
If you lay down on a medium all natural latex core and
a medium blended latex core (made by the dunlop process)
you would have to be the princess on the pea to tell which
is which. And of course only 3% of all the latex mattress
cores produced are both 100% natural and made using the
talalay process.
- Being "natural" does make it better to a certain
extent, what makes latex better is the manufacturing process.
The talalay process is superior to the dunlop process
- Blended latex is not an inferior product being palmed
off on the unsuspecting public. In many cases it is superior
depending on the source of the natural. Environment, soil,
weather conditions all combine to produce different qualities
of natural latex with the natural imperfections inherent
in a natural product". Adding a percentage of synthetic
improves the product by leveling out the imperfections.
- BEST VALUE for consumer is BLENDED TALALAY
LATEX because it delivers the most
consistant comfort over the longest period of time, produces
the widest range of firmness, and has a superior springy
feel. You cannot produce soft natural latex, using
the standard process, under 20 ILD without increased
risk of failure in the product.
|
| Lets look at latex based on cost to a manufacturer. |
1. synthetic latex cost on a scale of 1-10 is about a
3 (dunlop process)
2. natural latex cost on a scale of 1-10 is about a 5 (dunlop
process)
3. blended latex cost on a scale of 1-10 is about a 7 (talalay
process)
4. all natural talalay cost on a scale of 1-10 is a 10 (talalay
process)
The number of companies selling all natural
talalay are few and far between, but the number of companies
selling natural latex and inferring it is also talalay are
plentiful. |
EXAMPLE 2 |
"Our latex
mattresses are not soaked in a pound or more of cancer causing
PDBE fire retardants, and they don't outgas dangerous formaldehyde
on your body for 8 hours every night. When you think about
this, only 100% natural latex makes sense." |
| Stop with the out gassing statements about latex. It's absolutely
not true. Any chemicals used in the production of either natural
or synthetic are insert or washed out at the end of the manufacturing
cycle. In the early production of poly foam certain chemicals
were used, in some cases formaldahyde, and there was some
out-gasing. Moden production has eliminated any out-gasing
problems in polyfoam. In addition the manufacturing process
of latex mattress cores is completely different than poly
foam and has never included the use of formaldehyde. |
EXAMPLE 3 |
"All the mattresses
we sell contain 100% Natural Latex" |
| This statement is meant to mislead the reader to thinking
the entire mattress is 100% natural when in reality it could
be 20% of all natural and 80% of synthetic. |
